Overview Details 1980's House Transformation, Lincolnshire Our clients purchased a 1980's four bedroom house on an established housing estate in South Lincolnshire. Their aspirations were to make it a modern space for their family of four with open plan living and cohesive spaces to socialise for all ages. On the first floor, the house had four bedrooms and only one family bathroom. After detailed discussions during the briefing stage, it became apparent that not only was more space required, but there needed to be different spaces to cater for all the family. We designed a solution to extend their home in two key areas. A rear single storey extension linking the current kitchen and lounge with a new dining/ family room overlooking the established rear garden. And a first floor extension over the existing garage which creates a new bedroom suite as well as providing a new dressing area and en suite to a current bedroom. The materials currently used within the house are typical of their time being red multi facing brickwork, concrete interlocking tiles and white uPVC windows and doors. Both extensions have been deliberately designed to be obviously new using contemporary low maintenance materials, we selected anthracite zinc as the main wall and roof materials softened with vertical oak cladding. To establish a link from old to new we chose to replace the current windows and doors with black uPVC. The clients wished for the whole family to be part of the design process. By sketching and presenting different spaces within the home using 3d modelling software, we were able to illustrate how the family would use their new spaces, working collaboratively with them to establish how their home was designed.
